Most visitors to Diani never leave the beach strip. The real magic lies just inland: sacred Kaya forests, ancient Swahili ruins, kite surf bays, and community projects that are quietly transforming the coast.
Kaya Kinondo Sacred Forest
A 30-minute walk from many resorts, this is one of the last remaining coastal sacred forests. A Giriama elder leads small groups through medicinal plants, ritual sites, and stories that predate the arrival of the first dhows. Respectful dress and no photography inside the forest.
Kitesurfing at the Lagoon
Diani's protected lagoon is one of the best flat-water kite spots on the Indian Ocean. IKO-certified schools operate year-round. The best months are December to March when the trade winds are steady.
